What is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is steel that includes a minimum of 10% chromium. The chromium is what gives stainless steel it's corrosion resistant properties. It creates a thin film of chromium oxide at molecular level, that prevents the steel from rusting. When stainless steel is damaged or scratched it automatically regenerates the protective layer of chromium oxide.

Stainless Steel doesn't rust

Stainless Steel doesn't rust due to it's self maintaining protective layer of chromium oxide.

There different types of Stainless Steel

There are four main types of Stainless Steel:

  • Ferritic
  • Martensitic
  • Austenitic
  • Duplex

There are also different grades of stainless steel. The grade of stainless steel is determined by the amount of chromium it has.
